Grated hard mozzarella cheese – 100 g
Onion, finely chopped – 1
Garlic cloves, minced – 3
Minced meat (beef, pork, chicken, or turkey) – 700 g
Tomato sauce – 200 g
Vegetable oil – as needed
Salt – to taste
Optional: meat seasoning – to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F). Preheating ensures even cooking and a beautifully browned, bubbling top layer.
2. Cook the Stellini Pasta
Boil a large pot of salted water. Cook the Stellini pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
3. Make the Béchamel Sauce
Melt 50 g of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in 15 g of flour, cooking for 1–2 minutes to form a smooth roux. Gradually whisk in 500 ml of milk until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and a pinch of nutmeg, then remove from heat.
4. Cook the Meat
Heat a splash of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion and garlic until translucent. Increase the heat and add the minced meat, breaking it up as it browns. Season with salt and optional meat seasoning. Stir in 200 g of tomato sauce and simmer briefly to meld the flavors.
5. Assemble the Pasta Dish
Grease a baking dish with a little vegetable oil. Layer half of the cooked pasta, then half of the meat mixture, and half of the béchamel sauce. Repeat with the remaining pasta, meat, and béchamel.
6. Add the Cheese
Sprinkle 100 g of grated mozzarella evenly on top for a golden, bubbly crust.7. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, until the cheese melts and turns golden brown.
8. Let It Rest
Remove from the oven and let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the layers set and makes for neat, satisfying slices.
