Fans of daytime television are mourning the loss of actress, writer, and producer Ellen Weston, who has died at 87.

Weston, best known for her role as Suzanne Thurston on The Young and the Restless, has died at the age of 87. According to her friend and manager, Susan Zachary, the actress passed away on May 28 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Weston was described by her friends as “beyond a loyal friend — she was a fierce advocate for every single one of us.”

“She was our consigliere dispensing advice, wisdom, compassion, and care in equal measure — especially when we most needed an ear, a shoulder, and a true confidante,” the statement said.

“She took excellent care of herself, always tastefully put together with gorgeous outfits, the perfect makeup, and more. Up until the very end, she was still dancing and taking new classes,” it continued. “The latest was a pottery class taught by a dear friend that ended a month before her passing.”

Born on April 19, 1939, in New York City, Weston became a familiar face to soap opera audiences in a career that spanned more than six decades.

She also appeared in a number of classic television shows, including Get Smart, Bewitched, Wonder Woman, Mannix, and The Bob Newhart Show.

However, Ellen Weston wasn’t just a talent in front of the camera. Later in her career, she found success behind the scenes as a writer and producer, contributing to several television projects, including And the Beat Goes On: The Sonny and Cher Story.

She also returned to Guiding Light as a writer in the early 2000s, earning praise for her storytelling abilities. Weston is survived by her son, Jon.
