GTA 6 has been officially delayed again
It has been confirmed that GTA 6 has been officially delayed again.
The game, arguably the most hotly anticipated in modern gaming history, comes off the back of GTA V making over $9.5 billion, creating sky high expectations for the upcoming sequel.
With the game having already faced a major delay, fans will be dismayed to find out that they will have to wait even longer for the Rockstar sequel.
The announcement came off the back of a successful TakeTwo earnings call, the parent company of Rockstar.
Whilst the release was originally scheduled for May 26, TakeTwo said that the studio required ‘some additional time to finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve’.
Early trailers for the game confirmed that, after GTA V focused on three protagonists in a franchise first, GTA 6 will feature a female protagonist for the first time as part of a Bonnie and Clyde style crime duo.
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of TakeTwo, has previously made lofty promises over the scale of the upcoming game.
Zelnick said: “The key thing is that Rockstar Games is trying to create the best thing anyone’s ever seen in entertainment, not just interactive entertainment.
“That’s a tall order, and I think consumers have huge hopes for the title.”
Whilst fans of course understand the time needed to create the game, a second delay has left fans furious.
One tweeted in response to the news: “ok this is just insane now.”
Another said: “Rockstar saw us happy for 3 minutes and said ‘nah.'”
A third fan posted on Reddit, saying: “The most obvious delay. Should have bet money on it.
“This is a BIG delay tho. They can’t do another one and move it to 2027.”
Zelnick had previously spoken about the delay, saying: “The delay itself is really a reflection of desire to polish and create the best possible experience for consumers, and we as a company have been known not to have a sort of slavish devotion to release dates but rather to seek the highest quality entertainment.
“Generally, when we announce a date [for] certain, we’re able to hit that date.”
The delay comes amid a hard time for Rockstar, with 30-40 members of staff having been fired.
The company was accused of union busting as a result, but claim that they fired staff for breaking confidentiality, saying it was becuase workers were ‘distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies’.
The parent company of GTA 6 creator Rockstar, Take-Two Interactive, has confirmed a huge update concerning the release of the game.
It comes after months of speculation that Grand Theft Auto fans could expect a fabled second trailer for the new game in the run up to Christmas 2024.
With the first and only trailer for GTA 6 released back in December 2023, it marked 12 months since the huge drop.
But Christmas came and went, with no update on the new game that’s set to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Attention then turned to the next company update from Take-Two, which is taking place at this very moment.
Called an earnings report, they are financial updates that Take-Two gives. During these, it gives updates on some of its biggest financial products such as GTA 6 or Red Dead Redemption 2.
And the latest update is neither good or bad news for impatient GTA fans as, you guessed it, the game is still on course for a rather vague Autumn 2025 release.
