Texas mother accused of murdering her 6-year-old special needs son

Texas mother accused of murdering her 6-year-old special needs son has been captured in India.
Cindy Rodriguez Singh, 40, fled to India in March 2023 with her husband and six children, just days after authorities questioned her about the disappearance of her son, Noel Alvarez, from their home in Everman, Texas. The boy was last seen alive in October 2022 and is presumed dead, though his body has not been recovered.
Singh told investigators Noel was living with his biological father in Mexico, but suspicions led to murder charges against her in late 2023. She was added to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in July 2025.
Noel had multiple special needs and disabilities primarily resulting from his premature birth at 23 weeks gestation. These included developmental delays affecting his speech and social behavior, intellectual disabilities, esotropia (a condition causing crossed eyes), and a chronic lung condition that required oxygen inhalations.
Around the time of his disappearance, reports say he appeared malnourished and unwell.
Indian authorities, working with Interpol and the FBI, located and arrested Singh. She was returned to the U.S. and is now held in Tarrant County Jail, facing state murder charges and a federal count of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the international cooperation, noting Singh is the fourth most-wanted fugitive apprehended in the past seven months.
Everman Police Chief Al Brooks expressed satisfaction with the arrest, calling it a step toward justice for Noel.
FBI arrests woman charged with killing her 6-year-old son and fleeing to India
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that it had arrested a Texas woman who fled to India after being accused of killing her six-year-old son, Noel Rodriguez Alvarez.
Cindy Rodriguez Singh, who was added to the FBI’s “10 Most Wanted” list in 2023, was charged with capital murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
FBI Director Kash Patel gave “credit to tremendous field work, law enforcement partners, intelligence operatives” for her arrest, as well as officials in India, where she was apprehended.
Ms Singh fled the US in 2023, two days after police in Everman, Texas, performed a wellness check on Noel, who had not been seen since the previous October.
During the check in March 2023, Ms Singh said her son was in Mexico with his biological father.
Two days later, however, Ms Singh boarded a flight to India with her husband and six other children — but not Noel. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for him soon after.
Patel said in a post on X that it is believed she had “not been back to the United States since”.
Witnesses had told police Rodriguez Singh was abusive toward the boy, CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, reported.
Texas authorities charged Ms Sigh with capital murder in October 2023 and the following month a federal arrest warrant was issued for her apprehension.
The FBI offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Ms Singh’s arrest.
A year after he disappeared, the city of Everman named a playground in Noel’s honour.
