Kailyn Lowry’s 15-year-old son is now going by his middle name, Elliott.

The former “Teen Mom 2” star, 33, invited Elliott to discuss his name change, which coincides with him publicly coming out as gay this month, on the June 6 episode of her “Barely Famous” podcast.

“I started going by Elliott because at some point I wasn’t happy with my first name because it just doesn’t feel like me,” explained the teen, whose name at birth was Isaac Elliott Rivera.

For her part, Lowry shared that she found out her oldest son was going by a new moniker when she saw it all over his school paperwork.

“The paperwork all said Elliott,” Lowry recalled. “Like the teachers were writing Elliott, and it was like, ‘Comments about Elliott.’ And I was like, ‘Wait a minute, are we going by Elliott now?’”

Lowry said she understood why it’s important for the teen to forge his own identity by using a name he chose.

“I can appreciate the separation between who you were and who you are today,” she said. “I think that that is cool for you to recognize. It’s cool for you to sort of decide what makes you comfortable.”

During the episode, Elliott also talked candidly about why he chose to publicly discuss his sexuality.

“I want to make it clear that this is for me, and I’ve built up the courage over time to make it known and let me have my moment,” he said. “I’m really sick of people coming up with their own stories and putting things in their own words.”

Lowry found fame in 2010 when she welcomed Elliott with her high school boyfriend Jo Rivera on an episode of “16 and Pregnant.”

Lowry — and Elliott — went on to star on “Teen Mom 2” from 2011 until 2022.

When Lowry asked her son during their podcast conversation if he chose a new name to “build a separation” between how he appeared as a young child on the series and who he is now, he confirmed that was a factor in his decision.

“I think the separation from my personal and private life or who I was on TV versus who I am now, that was the main reason but at some point, I just realized I liked my middle name better,” he said.

Lowry is also a mom to six other children: Lincoln, 11 (with ex-husband Javi Marroquin); Lux, 7, and Creed, 4 (with ex-boyfriend Chris Lopez) and Rio, 2, and 19-month old twins, Verse and Valley (with ex-fiancé Elijah Scott).
