Christina Applegate Thinks About Her Death ‘Every Day’ and Has Purchased Multiple Burial Plots

Christina Applegate has death on her mind as she continues to battle multiple sclerosis.

Applegate appeared on the Thursday, March 19, episode of NPR’s “Wild Card With Rachel Martin” podcast and shared that she thinks about her death “every day.”

“It’s looming,” the actress, 54, told Martin. “I mean, it looms for all of us.”

Applegate added that her condition is a factor in why she frequently ponders her death.

“But for people who have a disease like this, you never know, you know?” she reflected. “I bought my plots already, OK? I bought them.”

Applegate explained that she purchased a final resting place for herself and two others.

“There’s going to be three of us there. But I did,” she said. “My friend and I are going to go take a picnic there. It’s really pretty where it is.”

While Applegate did not reveal where she is going to be buried, she shared what else she has planned for the spot.

“I have to pick my tree out ’cause they’re going to plant a tree there ’cause it’s really sunny,” she said. “And I want my visitors to not be sweating.”

Applegate’s decision to buy the burial plots came about because the spot she wanted was available, so she jumped at the chance.

“I’ve been thinking about this particular area of this particular place for so long. And I finally was like, ‘Is this available?’” she recalled. “They’re like, ‘Yes, it is.’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God, buying it now.’”

Applegate added that she took care of the purchase because she did not want to burden her loved ones with arranging the details.

“Just buy it now. That way, nobody has to deal with it,” she said.”

Applegate revealed that she was diagnosed with MS in 2021. The disease affects the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, per the National MS Society. Symptoms may include numbness, tingling, pain, fatigue, memory problems, mood changes, blindness and paralysis.

Following her diagnosis, Applegate has taken a step back from acting due to struggles with her symptoms.

“I want to do these things and I can’t, and it feels like I’m getting worse,” Applegate said during an April 2025 appearance on Hoda Kotb’s “Making Space” podcast. “And that’s disheartening. But then there’s, like, this voice inside of me that is like, ‘You’ve got to believe in a miracle. You’ve got to believe in another side of this.’”

She continued, “That’s just kind of where I’m at right now, which is not very inspiring to anyone. If someone listening to me goes, ‘Oh, my God, I feel that way, and I feel like I’m not doing it right’ — there is no doing MS right.”
