Woman spots what she thinks is a happy bird in the forest – then suddenly realizes her mistake

Nature never stops amazing us. For many people, being outdoors feels like a therapy for both their body and mind. The breeze, the freshness the trees fill our lungs with, and the stunning colors make for an incredible experience that help us relax and gather strength for the remaining of the week.
Kym Beechey, an Australian woman, loves spending her days outdoors. She appreciates the beauty of the nature and never misses a change to take photos of stunning sights she often stumbles upon.
One day, she walked through the forest, and she came across what she believed to be a baby tawny frogmouth (a bird resembling an owl).
She quickly took her phone out to take a photo of the sweet bird. However, when she zoomed in, she realized it wasn’t a bird at all but a banksia pod, often-funny looking pods that grow out of banksia trees, and are rather unique in their appearance.
These trees grow predominantly in south western Australia, but you can also find them in New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Their pods are often compared to pine cones.
The pods burst open, often in the heat of forest fires, and that’s the process when they release their seeds.
Realizing her ‘mistake,’ Kim had a good laugh about it and decided to share the photo of what she believed to be a bird for other to see.
Did this deceive you as well?
Banksia pods, also known as Banksia cones, are unique and intriguing structures derived from the woody shrubs and trees in the Banksia genus. These pods are distinctively shaped and the surface often features intricate patterns including pores or openings that contain the seeds of the plants. Our Banksia pods come from the Old-man Banksia, Banksia serrata, native to southeastern Australia. Old-man Banksia exhibit a wild-fire adaptation called “cone serotiny” in which the pores on the pods remain closed until exposed to high temperatures, after which they open and release their seeds.
Banksia pods are popular in floral arrangements and crafts due to their exotic shapes and textures. The woody nature of Banksia pods makes them suitable for carving and wood-turning. Woodworkers carve the pods creating unique sculptures or functional items like bowls and containers.
If you’re an aromatherapy lover, you’ll know there are a range of different diffuser styles – but one you may not know about is the Banksia pod diffuser!
Derived from the Banksia tree, these natural seed pods have become increasingly popular for their ability to diffuse essential oils while also offering a number of additional benefits.
Read on as we explore 5 reasons to use a Banksia pod diffuser to enjoy your favourite essential oils at home.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable
Banksia pod diffusers are plastic-free and sustainably sourced, making it an excellent eco-friendly choice. These beautiful diffusers are handmade in Australia from the Banksia Grandis seed and are 100% natural, with no flame or electricity required.
Diffuse Essential Oils Effectively
Banksia pods are incredibly porous, making them very effective at absorbing and diffusing essential oils. When essential oils are applied to the pod, it slowly releases the aroma into the surrounding environment, creating a gradual and long-lasting fragrance. This can result in a more consistent diffusion compared to other diffuser methods.
Perfect For Small Spaces
Because they don’t require electricity, Banksia pods are ideal for the smaller areas of your home that may not have powerpoints! For example: your powder room, wardrobe, study desk or even your car.
Low Maintenance
Banksia pod diffusers are remarkably easy to use and require minimal maintenance. All you need to do is apply a few drops of your favourite essential oil directly onto the pod. You can reapply the oil as needed to maintain your preferred fragrance strength. Unlike electric diffusers, there are no filters to replace or cleaning required, making them a convenient and hassle-free choice.
Unique Home Decor
The distinctive patterns and textures of Banksia pods also make them an eye-catching addition to your home decor! Whether placed on a coffee table, bedside table or entry table, Banksia pod diffusers can add a unique, natural touch to any room.
