Persistent Redness Around the Nose and What It May Mean

Persistent redness beside the nostrils is not automatically a sign of something serious, but its cause matters. Fine red lines may be superficial blood vessels called telangiectasia, which can become more noticeable with aging, sun exposure, or repeated flushing. Rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis can also cause redness, sometimes accompanied by flaking, itching, or burning. A photograph alone cannot distinguish these possibilities; the duration, triggers, and accompanying symptoms provide important clues to the cause.

Start by simplifying rather than intensifying your skincare routine. A mild cleanser, moisturizer for sensitive skin, and broad-spectrum sunscreen can help protect the skin barrier. Avoid abrasive scrubs, fragranced products, and known irritants, and introduce anything new gradually. Green color-correcting makeup can disguise redness but cannot treat its cause. If the change persists, worsens, or brings swelling or discomfort, seek professional assessment. The goal is not concealing every mark—it is understanding what your skin needs.
