Hayden Panettiere, 36, died from ‘toxic combination’ of drugs as official cause of death confirmed
Hayden Panettiere died suddenly at just 36, leaving fans devastated. Now, authorities have revealed the cause of death behind the actress’ tragic passing.
Panettiere, famous for her roles in the series Nashville and Heroes, to name a few, was found unresponsive on August 16 in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina.
Emergency services were called at 1:50 p.m. following a report of an “unidentified female” in cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, attempts to save her life were unsuccessful.
“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a statement, according to Page Six.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office later confirmed there were no signs of trauma that contributed to Panettiere’s death. Her cause and manner of death prompted a further investigation, with the Drug Enforcement Administration also joining the case.
“The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call,” the Greenville Police Department confirmed early in the investigation.
Now, authorities have revealed what caused the actress’ death.
“The cause of death has been ruled as toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol and Quetiapine,” the coroner’s official statement said, according to LADbible. “The manner of death has been ruled accident.”
Just weeks before her death, Panettiere openly discussed her battle with postpartum depression and addiction in her tell-all memoir.
Sources have claimed the actress allegedly had a “long-time drug” dealer who supplied her with black-market prescription drugs, including oxycodone. According to those sources, Panettiere is believed to have consumed the pill on the morning of her death.
The 36-year-old actress is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, whom she had with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko.
